Sestina Music Presents: 'When David Heard' with the Irish Baroque Orchestra
Sestina is joined by the Irish Baroque Orchestra for a stunning programme of music by Marini, Weelkes and Ramsey
In a programme based around the almost unknown work Lacrime de Davide by Biagio Marini, Sestina will explore the nature of the lament of King David for his son Jonathan, using a new performing edition produced by Mark Chambers. This rarely heard work will be paired with well-known choral settings of ‘When David heard that Absalon was slain’ by Weelkes and Ramsey, written as an outpouring of grief for the death of Prince Henry in 1612.
The performance will feature an ensemble of 8 singers, and we are delighted to be joined by members of the Irish Baroque Orchestra for this concert broadcast, recorded in St. Peter's Church, Drogheda.
We are grateful to our sponsors, Exitex Ltd. and to the Arts Council of Ireland and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for funding this project.
