To celebrate the publication of Marr’s Guitars, music icon Johnny Marr will join broadcaster Phil Taggart at an exclusive live in conversation event at the National Concert Hall, Dublin on 26th June 2024.

The book, which has already been shortlisted for the 2024 British Book Awards Prize, will serve as the jumping off point for an in depth conversation reflecting on the guitars and experiences that have informed the lifetime evolution of Johnny Marr’s iconic sound and songwriting.

Available now via Thames & Hudson, Marr’s Guitars features personal reflections and insights written by Johnny Marr, a foreword written by Hans Zimmer and stunning photographs shot by Pat Graham. The book also features contributions from Noel Gallagher, Bernard Butler and Ed O’Brien.

Its pages offer a unique cultural history of modern music through Johnny Marr’s collection of guitars. Some were passed to him by other revered musicians and collaborators - Nile Rogers’ Stratocaster, Bryan Ferry’s Roxy Music Hagstrom and Bert Jansch’s acoustic; and some he has passed to others, such as the Stratocaster used by Noel Gallagher on Wonderwall and the Gibson Les Paul used on In Rainbows by Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien.

Johnny Marr In Conversation With Phil Taggart will closely follow a sold out show at the Dreamland Ballroom in Athy, taking place on 25th June. Both events mark Johnny’s first visit to Ireland in 2024, after performing at the 2023 Electric Picnic Festival at Stradbally Hall.

The event arrives amidst a wave of activity celebrating the first ten years of Johnny Marr’s prolific solo career. Since launching in 2013, Marr’s solo output has given rise to five UK Top Ten studio albums - The Messenger (2013), Playland (2014), Call The Comet (2018), Fever Dreams Pts 1-4 (2022) and Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr (2023) - a record that captures the full measure of this extraordinarily fertile creative period. Johnny Marr has just completed sold out headline shows across the UK as part of The Spirit Power Tour.

The in conversation event will be hosted by broadcaster Phil Taggart. Creator of the celebrated ChillDaBeats and Slacker podcasts after spending 10 years at BBC Radio 1, notably creating and presenting The Chillest Show.
