Cathal Coughlan @ Kilkenny Arts Festival 2019
For 30 years, whether as a solo artist or frontman of acclaimed indie bands Microdisney and the Fatima Mansions, Cathal Coughlan has been one of rock’s most singular performers, feted for his caustic wit and dark lyricism. This pair of back-to-back shows offers the first glimpses of Coughlan’s satirical new persona, ‘Co-Aklan’.
In the first gig, the artist formerly known as ‘Cathal Coughlan’ joins forces with his band, the Grand Necropolitan Quartet, mixing favourite songs from his extraordinary back catalogue with new work inspired by Bertolt Brecht. For the second concert Coughlan/Co-Aklan is joined by guitarist James Woodrow to perform songs old and new, inspired by everything from the Book of Ezekiel to Kafka’s short story ‘The Burrow’. Don’t miss this chance to catch a genuinely original talent at the birth of this thrilling new project.
