Writer in Residence
NUI Galway invites applications from writers of established reputation for the position of Writer-in-Residence for the 2020 calendar year (January to December). The Residency will be jointly funded by the Arts Council of Ireland and the University.
The Writer-in-Residence will be provided with the opportunity to develop their practice in the supportive, creative environment of NUI Galway while also engaging with students and staff from across the university and the wider community.
The Residency role will require the appointee to offer 4 – 6 contact hours per week over two semesters (January-April and September-December), including workshops and consultations to students of English/Creative Writing at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. The Writer-in-Residence will be provided with administrative support and office space and they will enjoy uninterrupted time to advance their own writing during the University vacations.
The successful applicant will also be expected to deliver at least one public talk/reading in each of the two semesters, and to contribute to the ongoing fostering of links between the University and the wider literary communities and festivals in the city/region.
We welcome applications from writers who work in any genre or form. The Residency is for one year, with the Writer being free to focus exclusively on their own work during the summer period, from May through August.
Please apply with a CV outlining your artistic achievements and your teaching experience, including a covering letter explaining your suitability for the Residency. Closing date is 17.00 on Friday, 9 August 2019.
