Shamrock Shuffle: Blackpool
This summer, Ireland is the travel destination of the Ricciotti ensemble. The Ricciotti explores Ireland’s famous music culture: from the world’s best-selling pop artists Enya and U2 to the folk music by the Dubliners and the Pogues. The Irish viola player Séamus Hickey will be our soloist and will show the art of fiddling, in addition to classical music. He will even do a little singing! Hallways, squares and fields of the Emerald Isle will be filled with music, varying from jiggs and reels to Van Morrison and Elizabeth Maconchy. On the 15th of August we share our craic agus ceoil in Cork!
The Ricciotti ensemble is the only street symphony orchestra in the Netherlands. It is capable of anything while introducing unsuspecting audiences to the unique, rich sounds of a symphony orchestra. That is why this socially involved ensemble visits the audience itself instead of asking the audience to come to the concert hall. No location is too wild. During Ricciotti’s Shamrock Shuffle, the Ricciotti will provide around thirty performances in six days at various locations in Ireland. The Ricciotti usually plays at locations where live symphonic music usually does not sound: in schools, healthcare institutions and asylum centers. The Ricciotti looks upon music as a means to make people happy and more connected. As each person has a right to happiness, each person also has a right to music.
Ricciotti will perform a range of works, including music by contemporary Irish composers' Seán Doherty and Ronan Guilfoyle:
Seán Doherty - Paddy's Rambles through the Gravel Walks
Seán Doherty - arr., O'Carolan's Concerto
Ronan Guilfoyle - The Sligo Maid
Free admission.
