Julie Zhu + Sebastian Adams
Julie Zhu and Sebastian Adams debut their new duo with a performance of amplified drawing and viola.
----------
Julie and Sebastian met in Paris at IRCAM and have been friends and collaborators since. Originally planning to do a four-hour performance, they changed their minds and will play a normal concert. Julie has been invested in the sound of drawing for a long time, which Sebastian thought would be sympathetic with his viola. This is their first performance together as a duo!
Julie Zhu is a composer, artist, and carillonist. Her current research centers on creative and ethical use of AI in music. One project is a deep learning model on the sound of drawing as a visual co-performer. Julie works a lot with boxes, placing herself and other musicians in boxes for performances, and recently, has been thinking a lot about gentle noises.
Sebastian Adams is an Irish composer and performer, and founder of Kirkos. His projects include a string quartet performing in the sea as the tide rises around them, an interactive program that turns Twitch chat streams into music notation, and a largescale project “Stolen Music” comprising nothing but uncleared and unauthorised audio and video samples.
