The 4 of Us, Live from The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre, with special guest Peter O'Toole

Thursday, 17 December 2020, 8.30pm

SEAC Live presents sensational guitar playing and unforgettable storytelling as brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy give an uplifting account of their early life growing up on the Irish border during 'the Troubles'. The show draws on their latest album Sugar Island and a selection of their Irish hits. The performance will be streamed for free on YouTube Live and Facebook Live.

This is their only livestream show of 2020 following a string of sold-out UK headline and support tours with Saving Grace (Robert Plant) and Fairport Convention.

The 4 Of Us shot to early fame towards the end of 1989 with their debut Songs for the Tempted, which featured the massive hits Mary and Drag My Bad Name Down. The follow-up Man Alive made Q magazine's prestigious Top 50 Albums of 1992 and included the UK Top 30 song She Hits Me.

Peter O’Toole joined Hothouse Flowers in 1985 and began busking on the streets of Dublin and playing cafes, restaurants and nightclubs. Their first album, People, released in May 1988, was the most successful debut album in Irish history reaching the No.1 slot in Ireland within a week and eventually reached No. 2 in the UK Albums Chart.

Since then, in-between recording and touring Internationally with Hothouse Flowers, Peter has also produced music for artists including John Spillane, Simon Carmody and Michelle Shocked (Peach Fuzz) as well as owning a home studio in Wicklow .
From 2015 Peter started thinking about and planning ways to move from the shadow of the band and present himself as a soloist in my own right. During Lockdown he spent time composing 10 tunes and 4 songs for a double project which was funded by The Arts Council’s Covid 19 Response Fund and released as the short film and full length album Leaving White Cedar.

“Peter O’Toole is someone who could get a tune out of a ball of twine if you threw it at him.” - Pat Carthy, Hot Press
