Jeremy & Jemima Potts - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Call for Submissions

Monday, 16 March 2020, 11.45pm

Following a break in 2019, Cork Opera House are back to doing what we do best, producing our own Summer Musical! Following on from the successes of our in-house productions of Annie (2017) and The Wizard of Oz (2018), Cork Opera House are bringing the story of the magical old racing car to life on the stage in Cork from 25 July – 6 September 2020.
Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one family-friendly blockbuster that audiences will find “Truly Scrumptious”.

An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts sets about restoring an old race car from a scrap heap with the help of his children, Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical properties, including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself! The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher. With a fantastical flying car, a heart-warming love story, and a whole bunch of teamwork, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a fun-filled musical for all the family.

We are seeking two young actors, with the ability to both sing and dance, to play Jeremy and Jemima Potts in the stage production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang this Summer.

Approximately ten years old, Jeremy and Jemima are the children of the eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts, who builds the incredible flying car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, before they embark on an unbelievable adventure. Jeremy and Jemima are curious, extremely imaginative, confidant and kind children, who love their father and grandfather, and always see the best in every situation.

Due to the number of performances, Cork Opera House will be casting two children for each role, with the number of performances being split between actors. Those successful in getting to the next stage will be invited to audition during the week of April 6th.
