Described as having a reputation for a ‘superhuman mastery’ (The Irish Times), Marc-André Hamelin is ranked among the elite of world pianists for his unrivalled blend of consummate musicianship and brilliant technique. ‘A gifted composer as well as prodigious pianist’ (Chicago Tribune) Hamelin was inducted into the Gramophone Hall of Fame in 2015 in recognition of his remarkable discography; he boasts an impressive 70 CDs recordings for the Hyperion label.

Recognized worldwide for the originality and technical proficiency of his performances of the classic repertoire, we are delighted to welcome the famed pianist for his NCH solo debut, following his outstanding recital with Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes in 2016. His characteristically imaginative programme features works by Chopin and Fauré alongside works by Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Schumann and six arrangements by Alexis Weissenberg of songs by French singer-songwriter Charles Trenet, which Hamelin transcribed from the original 1950’s recording.
