Authored Works, an initiative by the Arts Council, aims to empower film artists by providing them with the creative and editorial freedom to produce feature-length cultural films from a distinct artistic standpoint. The programme exclusively supports artist-led films.
In 2023, Authored Works will support one film project with a total fund of up to €247,500. This funding includes a production budget of €230,000 and additional exhibition support of €17,500. The exhibition support will be made available upon completion of the film and submission of an exhibition strategy, subject to approval by the Arts Council. Only films that can be made within this budget will be considered. The completed film must premiere at the Irish Film Institute on a mutually agreed-upon date in 2025.
Applicants will be informed of their shortlisting status in July 2023. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to engage in detailed discussions regarding their proposals with the selection panel, which is expected to convene in the same month.
Successful projects selected for funding will be required to provide at least one Digital Cinema Print (DCP) to be deposited in the IFI Archive as part of Authored Works’ delivery requirements. The costs associated with producing the DCP should be factored into the project’s budget.
