Dana Masters: Jazz Mondays at The Complex

Monday, 17 October 2022, 7.30pm

Jazz Mondays is a series of three concerts presented by The Complex in partnership with IMC bringing some smooth and sophisticated sounds to The Depot, beginning with the powerful voice of Dana Masters and her band (17 Oct), followed by innovative pianist Cormac McCarthy (24 Oct) and virtuosic jazz guitar duo Aengus Hackett/Mike Nielsen (31 Oct) who will play a cool evening of Cole Porter.

On Monday 17th October, Dana Masters and her band kickstart the series with searing story-telling through Dana’s powerful voice and lyrics. Ireland's adopted queen of soul Dana Masters was raised in America's deep south, in a family where music had always played a role in church, community & civil rights - her grandmother a social activist. Meeting her husband - Northern Irish pastor Andrew Masters - in LA, Dana eventually moved with him to Northern Ireland and fell in love with the island's charms and wild winds. She was adopted by Belfast's jazz scene, and performing with trumpeter Linley Hamilton, Dana found herself singing one evening, while heavily pregnant, for an audience that included Van Morrison, and became Van's featured backing vocalist for years after.
Her NI home continues to inspire her music, inspiring her rising career as an international soloist.

Featuring:
Cian Boylan (piano)
Dave Redmond (double bass)
Darren Beckett (drums)
