Ortús Chamber Music Festival

Friday, 3 March 2023, 8.00pm

The 8th Ortús Chamber Music Festival will run from February 26th-March 5th 2023 in venues around Cork City and County, featuring 8 of the world’s most celebrated classical musicians. The festival, founded in 2016 by renowned Irish musicians Sinéad O’Halloran and Mairéad Hickey, was set up with the goal of providing performance platforms for some of Ireland’s finest young musicians alongside their international peers. Committed to highlighting the achievements of Irish musicians and composers on the world stage, while bridging connections with musicians worldwide, Ortús has invited over 40 musicians to Cork and programmed more than 85 musical works.

This concert features Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in C major Op 50 No 2 performed by the Marmen Quartet, followed by Paul Coletti’s “Moonlight Journey” for 2 violas. Bryony Gibson-Cornish will be joined by Irish violist Fiachra De hÓra. The concert concludes with Johannes Brahms’ much loved String Sextet No. 1 in B-flat Major, Op. 18. This will be performed by Johannes Marmén & Laia Valentin Braun (violin), Bryony Gibson-Cornish & Fiachra De hÓra (viola), Sinéad O’Halloran & Peggy Nolan (cello)
