Zeropunkt + The Troubles

Zeropunkt + The Troubles

Thursday, 13 February 2020, 8.00pm

It's rare enough, but sometimes an act just comes along with the uncanny knack to pull the carpet from beneath the feet of thy mind.
Fergus Cullen, Jamie Davis and Damien Lennon - aka Zeropunkt - are one such proposition. Furtive stalwarts of the Irish free psychedelic improvised scene, the Dublin-based trio - who previously made music as ¡NO! - meld sax, synth, clarinet, flute, bass and much more in their pursuit of something straight-up beatific.
Released in February, the nine-minute 'Bitch Nails', with its weaving, supremely blissed-up ebb and flow, distils it all and then some.
Best not pass up on the opportunity to bear witness to this threesome’s masterfully explorative, perfectly unpigeonholeable craft live.

Support on the night - right in the heart of Dublin 1 - comes from a new-fangled duo who comfortably emerged as a mild-melting peak at Open Ear 2019.
Marrying swathes of shapeshifting modular noise and fist-clenched beats á la Throbbing Gristle, Girl Band and far beyond, The Troubles (otherwise known as Woven Skull’s Aonghus McEvoy and Gerard Duffy of School Tour) weave distorted guitar and electronic panoramas with perfectly visceral vocal squalls. In no uncertain terms, they’re one of the best live acts on the island; you just may not know it yet.
