Open Call | Past, Present and Future Project

Open Call | Past, Present and Future Project

Friday, 1 May 2020, 5.00pm

Waterside Shared Village is a Peace IV funded project based on the interface area between Irish Street and Top of the Hill. The project aims to increase the movement of people between the two communities and bring them together through programming and larger scale events. As part of their current programme they will be organising a number of workshops where people will be asked to share their thoughts and memories of their community from the past, their thoughts and feelings currently and their aspirations for the future.

From the discussions they require an artist to develop an art piece to reflect these conversations. The art piece will be displayed in a new community hub building currently being developed between the two areas.

They want the community to be involved at all stages of the decision making process. Initially they will host a ‘meet the artist’ evening. Artists will be invited to attend and showcase their art medium, examples of previous creations and their thoughts about the project. The community by way of a ballot vote will then decide which artist they want to work on the project. All artists will receive travel expenses for their attendance at the event. (Depending on the number of applicants they may not invite all who apply to this event.)

The successful artist will then conduct a series of 5 workshops with individual groups. This is to absorb their stories, see photographs and get to know the people who make up the communities.

The artist will then create the art piece to be unveiled at a community exhibition in November 2020.

Project Budget £10,000 (to include, attendance at initial ‘meet the artist’ event, minimum of 5 workshops, creation of art piece, maintenance schedule.)

Please send an expression of interest (to include a brief overview of your art medium and experience of similar work.)
