Call for Spatial and Acousmatic Music Works

Call for Spatial and Acousmatic Music Works

Wednesday, 11 May 2022, 5.00pm

This is an ongoing call for acousmatic works. The deadline for inclusion in our first event is 11th May, but we hope to hold many more events. Submission is free of charge.

We are seeking acousmatic works for inclusion in an event (details to be decided on the basis of the pieces received) to be held in Unit 44, Dublin, on June 14th 2022.

The event will be open to the public and free to attend.

Works will be presented on 8 Genelec 8030a speakers (plus 1 subwoofer). Configuration to be finalised based on the pieces received.

Stereo works are also eligible and may be diffused live or presented on a separate stereo sound system, based on the composer’s preference.

We are also interested in music for presentation on bespoke/non-professional equipment.

All composers are eligible to submit work, regardless of age, nationality, country-of-residence or style. We particularly welcome submissions from composers from under-represented demographics.

There is no limit on duration, but, for the first event, pieces of up to 10 minutes are most likely to be included.
Longer pieces (included concert-length or installation pieces) may be prioritised in future events so please do not hesitate to send them to us.

Please send your works by 11th May as a single zipped folder to this Dropbox Request: https://www.dropbox.com/request/xgdMeu9L1O6cDJWsuGMw

Include the following:
- All audio files necessary for your piece in 24bit/48kHz or 24bit/96kHz WAV or AIFF format
- A stereo or binaural mixdown (if necessary)
- any other necessary files (e.g. Max patches)
- A text document with details of the intended technical setup
- A text document with your full name, nationality and/or where you are based, gender (optional), contact email and (if desired) a link to website/social media
- A biography and programme note

Further information:

Works may be in any format but we are particularly interested in acousmatic multi-channel works.

We can facilitate live diffusion and we can work with systems such as Spat.

Electro-acoustic pieces are also eligible for submission, particularly if the composer intends to perform the acoustic component themselves. However, we will be unable to offer a performance fee.
Works can be new or pre-existing, and may have been performed before.

We will inform all composers of whether their pieces have been selected by Monday 16th May at the latest.

Your personal information may be retained by Kirkos for up to one year after submission but will not be used for any purpose other than for those outlined in this document.

Thanks to the kind loan of the Genelec speaker array from the Spatial Music Collective, and to Dublin City Council and the Arts Council for providing the funding necessary to run Unit 44.

Please direct all questions to [email protected] but do NOT send your submissions to this address. Submissions to this address will not be accepted.
