Expect an eclectic mix of global underground music from across the world, as part of a free outdoor party in the new Design District spaces.

Celebrating the launch of the hotly anticipated Design District, recently crowned ‘one of World’s Greatest Places in 2021’ by TIME Magazine, SAMPLE Autumn will be the first public event to take place in Greenwich Peninsula’s newest neighbourhood. Design District is London’s first ever permanent, purpose-built home for the creative industries, officially opening its doors this September with an impressive line-up of free events, experiences and talks, kicking off with SAMPLE Autumn on 18th & 19th September.

SAMPLE, hosted at Greenwich Peninsula and curated by HemingwayDesign, has always been about providing a platform for emerging creatives and nurturing creative, independent brands by attracting design aware and sustainably-focused shoppers to experience their products. Now over two days with an even more expansive line-up of independent businesses, bringing together both Design District tenants and well-established SAMPLE regulars, SAMPLE Autumn won’t disappoint those looking for high-quality, artisan products and inspiration for the upcoming season. This season, SAMPLE is expanding into the new Design District, offering visitors an exclusive peek into the Peninsula’s newest neighbourhood and more space to explore, shop and socialise. SAMPLE’s ethos has always focused on sustainable design and innovation, with Community, Craft & Culture at its heart - now with the launch of the Design District providing a permanent and prolific home for like-minded designers and makers, this event brings together the best of both worlds.

Back at Greenwich Peninsula for its 12th edition, SAMPLE has become a hot-bed of future talent, offering much more than your average street market. This Autumn sees a line-up like never before, with an exclusive series of talks and workshops exploring the future of the creative industries, spaces to get crafty and creative, and plenty of retail therapy to indulge in from some of the capital’s most exciting independent brands. Shop for sustainable fashion and soak up the sounds of our resident DJ’s whilst sipping on delicious cocktails, made exclusively by the team at Design District Canteen, London’s newest food and drink destination. Bringing to the area a selection of independent food operators and culinary entrepreneurs, the architecturally impactful food hall will be centred around an outstanding transparent structure created by lauded Spanish architects, Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano. Vibrant stalls serving food from around the world will surround a stunning tree canopy for people to sit in and eat, while enjoying drinks from The Canteen Bar.

With community and creativity central to all it does, Greenwich Peninsula celebrates the next chapter in the creation of an exciting new part of London with the launch of Design District and return of SAMPLE this September. Bringing together established SAMPLE traders and new Design District tenants for a weekend of design and culture reinforces their commitment to supporting the creative industries and becoming the most vibrant London destination for art fans, design-lovers, and creative thinkers.

“Greenwich Peninsula puts the creative industries front and centre and the communities who live, work and come to spend time on the Peninsula will forever inform and inspire our decision making. In the absence of buildings, when Design District was still a dream, we focused on delivering an accessible arts and culture programme. SAMPLE is one of Greenwich Peninsula’s most loved seasonal events and merging long-time regular traders with our new hot-bed of tenants from within the Design District is an occasion to be celebrated – one not to be missed.”
Kerri Sibson, Director, Greenwich Peninsula

Easily accessible by River Bus to North Greenwich Pier, or the Jubilee line to North Greenwich, SAMPLE is the perfect way to celebrate our newfound freedom and support our small businesses, all showcased in a brilliantly designed outside location.

SAMPLE is curated by Hemingway Design for Greenwich Peninsula. Wayne & Gerardine Hemingway started out their careers in the fashion industry by way of reselling fashion on an unassuming Camden market stall which ultimately led them to launch their infamous fashion brand, Red or Dead.

“When we launched SAMPLE back in 2017, we wanted to provide a unique and engaging line-up of design-led independent businesses to Greenwich Peninsula. The focus has always been on supporting independent creatives and providing them with an outlet and audience. Now with the launch of the Design District, providing SAMPLE with its newly expanded home, we can’t wait to curate this year’s SAMPLE Autumn, which is penned to be our biggest and best yet; with a new food offering hosted by Design District Canteen, more space to socialise with friends and, of course, a stellar line up of new and independent brands to explore.”
Wayne Hemingway, Partner, HemingwayDesign
