Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival - A Celebration of Old Time Music

Friday, 10 June 2022, 8.00pm

As in previous years, the Friday night main concert of the festival will be dedicated to American Old-Time music. This year we are delighted to present two bands from the west coast of the US.

The Horsenecks from Portland, Oregon, are no strangers to our festival. They have wowed the crowd a number of times in different band variations over the years. The band will bring their unique style of hard-hitting and heartfelt Old-Time, classic Bluegrass and original roots music. Their sound is centred around the pairing of the signature rhythmic Appalachian fiddle style of Oregonian, Gabrielle Macrea, and the driving, yet subtle, banjo playing of Liverpudlian, Barry Southern.

The second act of the night will be California-based SLO County Stumblers. This will be the band’s first ever Irish festival headline show and no doubt it will be a memorable one! The Stumblers play hard-driving Old-Time fiddle tunes and spirited songs, heavily influenced by the golden era string bands of the 1920s and ‘30s. The band features fiddler, Casy Meikle, guitarist, Stuart Mason, banjo player, Daniel Bohlman, and banjo builder, Jerry James on Bass. Their performance is filled with humorous stories and banter and guaranteed to get feet moving across the dance floor.
