Twelve Fantasies featuring Alina Ibragimova

Twelve Fantasies featuring Alina Ibragimova

Friday, 18 June 2021, 8.00pm

Streaming through: June 20 9:59pm Eastern Time (United States). Featuring: Alina Ibragimova.

This concert was meant to be the three Schuman violin sonatas, but at the last minute the pianist was unable to travel. Providentially Alina Ibragimova was due to record the Twelve Telemann Fantasies so she was able to open her violin case and play them for us. Telemann was of course a slightly older contemporary of Bach and in their lifetimes he was far more famous though posterity has taken the opposite view. However these dozen Fantasies are a delight especially in the hands of such a violinist. Each one consists of three to six short sections, too short to be called movements, but which provide marvellous variety within each Fantasie. Telemann has a special gift for knowing how to keep the audience’s attention and the violinist’s interest throughout what might initially be thought a rather austere collection. The biggest pleasure might well be to watch the extraordinary agility and concentration of the performer in her faultless delivery of these exciting miniatures.
