DMQ is a contemporary music project featuring the music of Dermot McNeill.
The musicians in the project are collaborators that Dermot has known, over the years, working on the London music scene.
DMQ’s recent EP release is an exploration of writing for the modern quintet and consists of heavily rhythmic, intense odd meter grooves. Inspired by artists such as Avishai Cohen, Omer Avital, John Coltrane and Oscar Pettiford among many others.
The compositions span the history of modern jazz from the ‘blue note’ vibes of ‘Art Blakey’ in ‘Avenue to Nowhere’ the modal changes and strong melodic movement of ‘Modal Conspiracy and the cinematic ‘Shariputra’. Jazz funk vibes of ‘Keep Coming Back to You’.
DMQ are currently working on their second recording project, a 10 track album release.

ORIGIN STORY
at the Hawks Well Theatre

Greg Felton – Piano
Cormac OBrien – Double Bass
Matthew Jacobson – Drums

http://www.originstorymusic.com/

Pianist Greg Felton, bassist Cormac OBrien and drummer Matthew Jacobson have accumulated over 25 years of history as collaborators and friends and have been involved in many of the most artistically successful projects in creative Irish music in that time.

Since 2016, they have been writing and performing together as a trio. Origin Story’s music is informed by all of these shared experiences and results in provocative and interactive writing and playing, equally influenced by the origins of the jazz tradition and contemporary innovations.

In 2018, they recorded their debut album, featuring original compositions from all three members, at The Meadow in Co. Wicklow with Rian Trench. The resulting record embodies the group’s founding in the jazz tradition, their interest in groove, their affection for free improvisation, as well as their propensity for provocative rhythms.

Origin Story are "one of the freshest voices in Irish jazz and a must-hear for anyone who wants to know where the piano trio is headed in the 21st century." (Irish Times).

“a trio with bags of personality, where virtuoso playing is tempered by rich rhythmic textures strong melodies and a soulful collective voice” (All About Jazz)

"Exuding agreeable and highly desirable maturity... A piano trio who have nothing to prove and everything to give in a spirit of admirable positivity and interconnectedness." (Marlbank)

"A spectacular debut from Origin Story... Wonderfully inventive and unpredictable stuff from Matthew Jacobson, Greg Felton and Cormac O'Brien." (Bernard Clarke, RTE Lyric FM)
