Tabhartas – PhD in Arts Practice performance by Kevin McNally
Premieres Monday the 25th of January at 6pm on youtube.com/IrishWorldAcademy
Tabhartas (offering) is a duet for human performer and Javanese gamelan gongs in two parts. It uses microphones, transducers, tape and a modified electric guitar to create feedback loops within which intended and unintended sounds emerge.
It deals with themes of interconnection and absence in a time of restrictions, as well as the agency of the non-human entities that affect us. This work is based on research with the Gamelan Spréacha Geala community gamelan group in Skibbereen Co. Cork and was recorded in The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance on 3rd November 2020.
