Harpers Songs Recital: HHSI Early Irish Harp Discovery Day @ Galway Early Music Festival 2019

Sunday, 26 May 2019, 12.00pm

Performers Simon Chadwick, Siobhán Armstrong – early Irish harp, Eilís Ní Ríordáin.

A concert of harp music and harpers’ songs with Ireland’s foremost historical harpist, Siobhán Armstrong, and the prize-winning singer, Eibhlís Ní Riordáin.

The 18th-century harpers of Ireland have left us a large body of music, found in 18th- and 19th-century published and unpublished collections and notebooks. The best known of these are the three volumes produced by Edward Bunting. It may surprise some to hear that many of these tunes were actually songs, and that some of the words to these songs can be found and once more married to their tunes.

Siobhán and Eibhlís have been working with the sources to recover some of these songs and let them live again. The concert includes songs by famous harpers such as Carolan, the Connellan Brothers and Cornelius Lyons.

Tickets €15 / €12 Unwaged and over 65
