Open call for commissions: Free State 13

Open call for commissions: Free State 13

Sunday, 2 August 2020, 11.00pm

Write for Crash Ensemble, Ireland’s leading new music group and have your work premiered at New Music Dublin, Ireland’s dedicated New Music Festival in 2021.

New Music Dublin and Crash Ensemble will commission five works from up-and-coming Irish* composers. Composers will be selected from anonymous open submission by Irish composer Andrew Hamilton and Crash Ensemble.

Andrew Hamilton will mentor the selected composers as they write new works, which will be workshopped by the ensemble prior to performance and live recording.

If selected:
Successful applicants will be commissioned to create a new work for Crash Ensemble’s full line up (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass/ Electric Bass, Piano, Electric Guitar, Percussion, Clarinet/ Bass Clarinet, Flute/ Piccolo, Trombone), for a duration of 5-7 minutes. Works can include electronics, these can be live electronics, we’d love to have you on stage with us.

To apply:
Send two existing works as a PDF score, with an MP3/electronic mock up (if you have one). These pieces should be reflective of your current work, and will be used for the adjudication process only. Don’t put your name on the score or mp3. We will be selecting works ‘blind’, any submissions with names on the score or mp3 will not be included in the selection.
Include your name and contact details in your email.

Deadline: 2nd August 2020, midnight GMT.
Submit: by email to marjie [at] crashensemble.com (please title ‘Free State 13’)
