Compose a Folk Carol for Choir

Saturday, 2 November 2019, 5.00pm

London Choir, Eclectic Voices, invite folk musicians to compose a Carol/Winter Song
The winning composer will receive a cash prize of £400 and their music will be performed at the Eclectic Voices concert:

Folk at Christmas
The Actor’s Church, St Paul’s Covent Garden, London
Saturday 21st December

Deadline for submissions: Saturday 2nd November 2019
The winner will be announced the week commencing Monday 11th November 2019

The judging panel includes:
Scott Stroman – Composer and Musical Director, Eclectic Voices
Sally Davies – Composer, Arranger and Leader of Cecil Sharp House Choir

The Rules:
The song must be written for unaccompanied SATB choir
Words must either be original or the source identified and out of copyright
Duration no more than five minutes
The song must not have had a previous public performance
The winning entry will be awarded £400 prize money and the carol will receive its premier performance at the Eclectic Voices Christmas Concert 2019
Eclectic Voices retain no rights beyond live performance
The decision of the judging panel is final and binding
The panel reserves the right to withhold the prize

Whilst respecting the tradition of folk music, the judging panel encourage originality in composition and arrangement

How to Enter:
Entries to be submitted as sound files with accompanying pdf score.
Don’t include your name or other identifying words on the score or the file name: use only the title of the carol in the file name and on the score.
Sound files can be an mp3 export from score-writing software; a Sibelius file up to version 7.5; or a vocal recording of the piece
The quality of the vocal recording is not critical, but it should be clear enough to present the composition in the best light possible.
