Final concert THE ART OF BOWING / L'ARTE DELL'ARCO, Frantisek Brikcius - Cello

Saturday, 26 October 2019, 2.00pm

Final concert THE ART OF BOWING / L'ARTE DELL'ARCO will take place on Saturday 26th October 2019 at 2:00 p.m., at the Parish Church of Ss Peter and Paul (The Green, Chingford Green, Chingford, E4 7EN, London).

Czech cellist František Brikcius will play virtuoso L'Arte dell'Arco (the Art of Bowing)* - 50 variations written by Italian baroque composer Giuseppe Tartini (*April 8, 1692 Piran/Istrie - †February 26, 1770 Padova) on the theme of Corelli's Gavotte in the transcription of Paul Bazelaire (*March 4, 1886 Sédan - †December 11, 1958 Paris) for cello solo.
* Chingford premiere

"Giuseppe Tartini studied law at the University of Padua, where he became skilled at fencing. After his father's death in 1710, he married Elisabetta Premazore, a woman his father would have disapproved of because of her lower social class and age difference. Unfortunately, Elisabetta was a favourite of the powerful Cardinal Giorgio Cornaro, who promptly charged Tartini with abduction. Tartini fled Padua to go to the monastery of St. Francis in Assisi, where he could escape prosecution. While there, Tartini took up playing the violin."
