The UK premiere of music documentary film Makanna + live cello

The 1st WALTHAM FOREST CELLO FEST (6th - 26th October 2019) - "London Borough of Culture meets Classical Music" invites you to the UK premiere of film MAKANNA.

Screening of music documentary film MAKANNA, together with a live cello performance and film introduction, will take place on Wednesday 16th October 2019 at 8:00 p.m., at One Hoe Street (1 Hoe St, Walthamstow, E17 4SD, London).

Music documentary film MAKANNA*, based on the novel of the Jewish writer Jiří Weil (1900 - 1959), from the concert performance of the ballet MAKANNA, composed by composer Irena Kosíková for voice (Jan Židlický), solo cello (František Brikcius) and orchestra (Jan Talich - conductor, Talich Chamber Orchestra), was held at the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia under the auspices of Sir Tom Stoppard and Václav Havel.

The film was premiered at the Vaclav Havel Library in Prague (the 4th Festival Brikcius) and it was recently screened in Beijing (the 9the European Union Film Festival in China), in Lisbon (MUVI - International Music Film Festival in Portugal) and in Mexico (FIC AUTOR - Author's International Film Festival).

"The novel Makanna - The Father of Miracles describes the rise and fall of a historical person - the 7th century false prophet with his face covered with the green veil and his eyes glowing as embers."

In the cooperation with One Hoe Street and the Czech Centre London.

This year the festival commemorates the 334th anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach, the 327th anniversary of the birth if Italian baroque composer Giuseppe Tartini, the 200th anniversary of the birth of German - French composer and cellist Jacques Offenbach, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jewish composer Gideon Klein - Gideon Klein Centenary, the 100th anniversary of the birth of American Jazz Cellist Fred Katz - Fred Katz Centenary, the 60th anniversary of the death of Swiss-born American composer Ernest Bloch and London's first ever Borough of Culture in 2019!
