About the filmed opera:

Three women. All different. Connected only by the intensity of their wildly dissimilar desires.

Unrequited love for an aloof, narcissistic older woman . . . an obsession with a partner’s former lover, intense enough to verge into the erotic . . . a yearning to bear a child, to create a companion and break out of a painful seclusion.

Through their letters, their voices join each other across time, in an attempt to give name to their desires.

This event will be preceded by a pre-show talk at 7pm on 25 October. Join us to gain a deeper insight into the work before viewing the opera on demand from 7.40pm.

7.00pm: Pre-broadcast Q&A with INO Studio Studio and Outreach Producer James Bingham in conversation with composer Amanda Feery and director Aoife Spillane-Hinks.

7.40pm: Premiere broadcast followed by on demand access.

Your ticket will give you access to both the pre-broadcast talk and the broadcast.

World Opera Day aims to underline the positive value of opera for society with this year's celebration placing a special focus on jobs for the next generation of talent. A Thing I Cannot Name was created with members of the 2020/21 ABL Aviation Opera Studio, Irish National Opera's professional development programme and celebrates the potential of the future of Irish opera.
