It might have been the vodka talking, but when Modest Mussorgsky went to an art exhibition his imagination went into overdrive. Talking skulls, dancing chickens, ancient castles and a hut with hen’s legs: Pictures at an Exhibition is a riot of colour, and it’s performed today by the blazing brass of Septura, the all-star, seven-piece ensemble that The Observer described as “irresistible”.
