To mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, Lyric Opera presents FIDELIO, a fully staged production in association with The National Concert Hall.

Beethoven’s only opera is a masterpiece, an uplifting story of risk and triumph. This electrifying new production is a collaboration with the extraordinary SinfoNua – a development orchestra for emerging professionals, conducted by exciting English conductor Toby Purser. The Lyric Opera Chorus, augmented by the magnificent Carlow Choral Society, accompany.

Australian tenor Sam Sakker plays the political prisoner Florestan, and the sensational Irish soprano Sinead Campbell Wallace returns to Lyric Opera as his wife Leonore (disguised as ‘Fidelio’) who daringly sets out to rescue him. From The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden comes the outstanding young baritone, Gyula Nagy singing the role of Pizzaro and making his debut is the distinguished Russian bass Mikhail Svetlov singing the role of Rocco. Completing the cast are two young Irish artists - Rachel Croash and Patrick Hyland singing the roles of Marzelline and Jaquino respectively.

The music is transcendent throughout and includes the famous Act I Quartet, the Prisoners’ Chorus and Florestan’s impassioned Act II cry in the darkness and vision of hope. Director Vivian Coates’ production brings together the dark reality of the French Revolutionary ‘Terror’ and our own time to illuminate Fidelio’s inspiring message of shared humanity.

This will be an extraordinary production to celebrate the true genius of Ludwig Van Beethoven, and will be in high demand.
