Musician and producer David Kitt last month released his ninth studio album ‘Idiot Check’ via RE:WARM. Kitt is known for his unique songwriting style that blends inspirations, eras, and sounds to create a timeless quality in his music. ‘Idiot Check’ showcases this ability by bringing together an eclectic mix of ambient and atmospheric sounds to traditional folk music.

Kitt wrote the album between 2016 and 2022, while residing in Dublin, Paris, and eventually the remote town of Ballinskelligs in south-west Kerry during the pandemic. It demonstrates Kitt’s wide-ranging songwriting and production abilities, fusing acoustic and electronic elements with expert precision. The album’s diverse origins reflect Kitt’s personal breadth as a musician and producer.

Kitt’s debut album, ‘Small Moments,’ was released in 2000 and helped re-establish the Rough Trade label. His breakthrough came in 2001 with ‘The Big Romance,’ which led to a performance at the David Bowie-curated Meltdown Festival in London. In 2003, his third album ‘Square 1’ debuted at the top of the Irish charts.

Kitt has explored a variety of genres throughout his career, from MPC-driven hip-hop to Arthur Russell-esque funk and traditional folk. He has also played with acclaimed rock group Tindersticks and released an album under the alias New Jackson.

Kitt has received praise from several publications, including NME, Louder Than War, The Irish Times, The Guardian, Golden Plec, and Pitchfork. He has also provided remixes for major pop and dance artists such as The XX, Mano Le Tough, and Shit Robot. Additionally, Kitt has DJed at prestigious clubs and festivals worldwide, including Berlin’s Berghain and the AVA festival in Belfast.
