Walk - "Belfast City of Song" @ Belfast TradFest Winter Weekend
Time: 3pm
Location: Meet in Reception of Ulster University, York Street
The people who flooded into Belfast to find work at the beginning of the 19th century brought their folk songs with them and soon the pastoral imagery of the countryside they’d left behind was replaced in their balladry by descriptions of a new life lived in narrow, red-bricked streets, in the shadow of towering mills and gantries. Folk-singers Maurice Leyden and Jane Cassidy draw on Maurice’s acclaimed song collection ‘Belfast City of Song’ to tell the story of Belfast as it grew from a small town to industrial city. This singing/walking tour willjourney through Belfast’s past will last an hour and visit locations within a mile radius of Belfast’s City Hall.
