BBC Symphony Orchestra: Sakari Oramo conducts Larcher and Mahler

Friday, 24 May 2019, 6.00pm

Programme
Thomas Larcher Chiasma – UK premiere
Gustav Mahler Symphony No 7 in E minor

Performers
Sakari Oramo conductor
BBC Symphony Orchestra

Cowbells, guitar and tubular bells all add their colours to Mahler’s shadowy, phantasmagorical vision of night, with its sinister central scherzo and the sober, night-time procession of the Andante, before darkness is swept away in the bright blaze of the finale. A UK premiere by Thomas Larcher opens the concert. Chiasma is the third and final piece in this season’s mini-focus on the free-thinking Austrian composer.
