The Irish Examiner invites applications to the role of News Editor.

The News Editor has overall responsibility for leading domestic news coverage in the Irish Examiner. S/he will have a clear understanding of the news values and ambitions of the Irish Examiner, both online and in print, leading a team of experienced journalists working from Cork and Dublin.

The News Editor will play a leading role in the newsroom’s current transition to a digital media organisation. S/he will work alongside other senior editors in the Group to develop and manage the Company’s print-digital integration and development strategy. The person appointed will be able to demonstrate the experience and judgement to maintain our traditional strengths and standards as well as wanting to further develop and reimagine our content across all channels.

Key aspects of the role include prioritising and shaping news coverage on a daily basis, with particular emphasis on growing digital engagement. The person appointed will play a leading role in planning and coordinating content; directing and supporting the work of correspondents and reporters; and liaising with the Central Production and other colleagues to ensure that the highest standards and efficiencies are maintained.

As the head of the largest editorial department at a time of ongoing change and development, the News Editor will need to demonstrate excellent organisational and people management skills. S/he will be responsible for the management of newsroom staff and resources within agreed budgets. The post calls for high levels of commitment and flexibility.
