Aspiring young composers, aged 15-18, are invited to participate in a digital summer project with professional composers, and singers from Chamber Choir Ireland.

In July, successful applicants will learn to create their own unique Choral Postcards - short pieces of choral music for four part choir. Choral Postcards is free and the deadline for receipt of applications is next Thursday 24th June. The project is an initiative of Chamber Choir Ireland in collaboration with the Contemporary Music Centre.

Participants will learn about using software to notate their musical ideas, where to find texts to inspire their music (from poetry, to headlines, to Twitter threads), and how to write for voice. All sessions will be held via Zoom. It is an opportunity for these young people to be tutored by professional composers, learn about choral performance, participate in individual sessions with a composer and receive feedback, as well as work together in larger sessions. At the end of July, they will reconvene as a group for three days to finalise their scores and record their work.

Participants will be rewarded with recordings of their own music, performed by Chamber Choir Ireland, together with their own pieces of music printed on Choral Postcards.

The project will run on selected dates throughout the month of July, beginning with an introductory session on 1st July. Group sessions will take place from 7th-9th and 28th-30th July, and each student will have two opportunities to receive one-to-one guidance on their work from a composer in the interim weeks.
