Six in the Attic

Six in the Attic

Tuesday, 24 November 2020, 5.00pm

Six in the Attic (SITA), now in its 10th cycle, is Irish Theatre Institute (ITI)’s flagship artist development programme providing artists with space and resources to create and develop work. Six in the Attic (SITA) focuses on supporting writers and theatre makers through mentoring, continuing professional development, networking and immersion in a community of artists who share the attic experience, both in person and online.

In 2021, and in response to learning we’ve gained about living with Covid, we are extending SITA to include non-Dublin based artists for the first time through membership of our new Virtual Attic. 2021 will see ITI supporting twelve Attic Artists, in Dublin and nationwide – SITA x 2!

ITI recognises that having the time and space to think allows your work to reach its full potential. SITA artists in Dublin will have access to designated desk space in our building in the city centre. For those joining virtually, ITI will engage with partner organisations in selected artists’ locales to broker access to desk/workspace on a short-term basis. All SITA artists will have access to ITI’s rehearsal/meeting room spaces in Dublin for development and collaboration sessions (Covid-19 restrictions permitting).

ITI is now calling for applications from playwrights and theatre makers with ambitious creative plans for 2021; artists who feel they will benefit from mentoring and support alongside provision of space, time and practical resources to create over a 12-month period during what will inevitably be a challenging year. ITI welcomes submissions from emerging, mid-career and established artists and makers who want to grow their careers, build their community and seek to match the scale of their projects with the scale of their ambition.

As a SITA participant, each artist will:
– Receive bespoke mentoring from ITI’s Co-Directors (Siobhán Bourke and Jane Daly).
– Get access to information services and expertise from ITI staff.
– Receive an artists’ practice bursary of €1,000.
– Participate in a series of encounters and Continuing

Professional Development workshops with industry experts, in person and/or online.

Six places are available in the Attic space in ITI’s Dublin office, and six artists will be supported to take part virtually who are living and working throughout the country. Through Six in the Attic and the new Virtual Attic, ITI will support and resource a community of twelve professional theatre makers and artists to engage, explore, develop, debate, and collaborate on their projects. If you are keen to realise your artistic ambition and grow your community of peers and champions, then apply now.

Deadline for applications: 24 November 2020, 5pm
