Irish Chamber Orchestra - Strauss, Mozart, Deane & Haydn

Friday, 24 February 2023, 7.30pm

Strauss Serenade Op.7 (arr. Stein)

Mozart Sinfonia Concertante in E flat for Violin and Viola, K364

Raymond Deane Embers

Haydn Symphony no. 49, F minor ‘La Passione’

The soft-edged lyricism of his beautiful and imaginative Serenade brought the young Richard Strauss international acclaim.

ICO explores Stein’s version which retains the style by dividing each of the string sections to give the ten independent lines of the original.

Celebrated husband-and-wife duo Thomas Zehetmair and Ruth Killius fan the flames of the glorious Sinfonia Concertante, one of Mozart's best-loved works. Raymond Deane’s atmospheric Embers, one of his best-known works, obsessively turns over musical fragments.

Finally, Haydn’s Symphony No. 49 brims with turbulence and drama, exploring grief with feeling and dramatic flair.

Presented by the Irish Chamber Orchestra

Date: Friday 24th February 2023
