This workshop is for anyone interested in understanding concepts and devices of rhythm found in musical styles from around the world. Improve your sense of rhythm and structure, apply the rhythms and patterns with your own instrument or use the ideas as a tool in composition and teaching. We will look at:

shapes and phrases in South Indian music
Eastern Mediterranean rhythmic cycles
multi-layered grooves from Ghana, Morocco and Brazil
how to play Sandansko Horo in 22/8
Learn the ways that these rhythmic ideas, techniques and devices can be applied to enrich your compositional, performance and educational skills. Applicable to all instruments.

Mp3s, pdfs and relevant internet links will be provided to help you continue your studies.
