‘Choral Postcards’ Young Composers’ Summer Project

‘Choral Postcards’ Young Composers’ Summer Project

Thursday, 1 July 2021, 10.00am

Applications for Choral Postcards July 2022 are now open!

Choral Postcards gives aspiring young composers age 15-18 the opportunity to work remotely and in person with professional composers and singers to create their own Choral Postcards—short pieces of music written for four-part choir.

Throughout the month of July, students learn about the tools and software they can use to capture their musical ideas, and explore all the places where they might find texts to set for their compositions—from poetry to headlines, or even Twitter threads. Through demonstrations with professional choral singers and small group sessions with professional composers, they spend time learning about writing for the voice. In one-to-one sessions with their composer-mentors and a final in-person workshop with Chamber Choir Ireland, students put together their finished piece to be professionally performed, recorded, and printed on their own Choral Postcard.

Choral Postcards 2022 will take place between Friday 1st July – Sat 6th August, with group and individual mentoring sessions all delivered online via Zoom throughout the month. The final group session (Tues 26th July) and an in-person concert of finished pieces (Sat 6th August) will both take place in Dublin.
