For their twentieth outing in the complete songs of Schubert series (Schubertreise), Conor Biggs and Michel Stas present a programme dominated by the drawing-room opera style of writing so prevalent in Schubert’s output: pride of place falls to Lodas Gespenst, a Wagnerian canvas incorporating elements of celtic mythology, while another epic song, ‘Minona’, continues the celtic theme. There are also lengthy settings of poetry by Schiller and Körner, including the two contrasting versions of Sängers Morgenlied.
