London Piano Festival
The London Piano Festival is an annual event held in the vibrant, contemporary setting of Kings Place, and this year runs from 2 to 6 October 2019.
A sequence of solo recitals will run throughout the five-day festival including appearances by two of today’s most sought-after classical artists – Federico Colli and Christian Ihle Hadland. The electrifying jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock offers an unmissable night of his own compositions whilst younger listeners can prepare to experience the piano up-close and revealed in a new light by Sarah Nicolls’ ground-breaking show, ‘The Inside-Out Piano’.
Music and Words combine for two special events – a lecture-recital on Schubert by the acclaimed Scottish pianist Susan Tomes and the London premiere of Lucy Parham’s new show, a homage to the legendary 19th century pianist/composer Clara Wieck Schumann narrated by Dame Harriet Walter.
The central event is the ever-popular Two-Piano Marathon where six of the LPF pianists including the outstanding Tim Horton will team up in various combinations to present a wide range of repertoire from Mozart to Brahms via Debussy and Ravel. A world premiere by Jonathan Dove, our ‘LPF 2019 Composer in Residence’ will celebrate the distinctive voice of a much-loved British composer.
