Anna Mieke and Rachael Lavelle – Presented by Quiet Lights Festival

Saturday, 20 November 2021, 9.30pm

Quiet Lights presents Anna Mieke and Rachael Lavelle, live from The Everyman, Cork.

Anna Mieke is an Irish musician and songwriter, based in county Wicklow. Her debut album Idle Mind, described as “a strikingly confident collection of songs, full of blue sky thinking and wide open horizons” by The Irish Times, was released independently in April 2019.

Inspiration for her writing stems from a colourful background of experience: learning Maori songs at school in New Zealand, cycling through Europe, living in Granada, learning folk songs in Bulgaria and performing cello in the Cork-based experimental improv group, HEX. She has shared stages with many other artists, including playing support shows for the likes of Lisa Hannigan, Martin Hayes, This Is The Kit, Lankum, Gyda Valtysdottir (múm) and Rozi Plain. Anna Mieke is also one-third of the singing trio Rufous Nightjar, whose debut album is set for release next year.

She was nominated for the RTÉ Folk Award ‘Best Emerging Act’ 2019 following her album release.

Anna Mieke will be joined on The Everyman stage by her regular collaborators Matthew Jacobson on percussion, Ryan Hargadon on saxophone and synth and Brían Mac Gloinn (of folk duo Ye Vagabonds) on fiddle and harmonium.

Anna Mieke will be supported on the night by Dublin-born singer and composer Rachael Lavelle.

Rachael Lavelle has captivated audiences with a music that is both intensely visceral and darkly humorous. Merging classical and contemporary influences, her hypnotic live performances blend electronic soundscapes with spoken word and acrobatic vocals.

She has performed at festivals including this year's SXSW showcase and has written for and collaborated with a wide range of artists such as Villagers, Crash Ensemble and Saint Sister. She is currently finishing her debut album.
