Nighttime Series #004 (Curated by Liam Dougherty)

Thursday, 27 October 2022, 3.55pm

The fourth event of "Nighttime Series", curated by Liam Dougherty, will take place on Thursday 27 October at 4pm til late.

Information about the installation:
"a renewed commitement to life and decay, always" is a sound art installation consisting of a deconstructed recycled piano, tactile transducers, and audio feedback. The work exists somewhere between a long-form composition and sound sculpture. The resonance of the piano’s soundboard is used within an induced feedback loop to continually generate resonant noise from the ‘instrument’ that is transformed and diffused throughout the space. The work will be installed in an evening-length, multichannel realization at Unit 44.

Liam Thomas Dougherty (b. 1996) is a London-based composer and sound artist from the United States. His work exists in the spaces between electroacoustic concert music and conceptual audiovisual installations. His music is concerned with the materiality of sound, and often employs extreme durations that re-contextualize instrumental design, audio feedback and noise, and found-sounds. Recent works invite audiences to explore the depth and mass of sound, and to perceive qualities that lie outside of linear forms.
