RTÉ lyric fm marks its 20th birthday with an array of Irish talent in a gala concert. The programme features Mozart, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Johann Strauss II, John Williams and three world premieres by young Irish composers.

Tyrone-born Ryan Molloy’s Gealán is a concerto for Irish harp featuring Anne-Marie O’Farrell. Kate Neville’s setting of Carrick-on-Suir poet Michael Coady’s ‘Though there are torturers (…there is music)’ will be performed by the RTÉ Philharmonic Choir, while Elliot Murphy borrows from Ireland’s slow-air tradition to create a new work for eight cellos.

Tenor Gavan Ring sings Lenksy’s Aria from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin; soprano Emma Nash takes centre stage for Mozart’s ‘Voi Che Sapete’ (Marriage of Figaro); and the two will perform Verdi’s ‘Parigi O Cara’ (La traviata) together.

AJ Potter’s Fantasy for Clarinet and Orchestra features RTÉ NSO Clarinet Section Leader John Finucane. The NSO will also perform John Williams’ Fiddler on the Roof Suite – an Oscar-winning re-working of Jerry Bock’s original theatre score.

Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Johann Strauss II’s By the Beautiful Blue Danube and Saint-Saëns’ ‘Danse Bacchanale’ (Samson et Dalila) complete the concert.
