University of Essex is hiring a Lecturer (Head of Music) for its East 15 Acting School.

The post holder will coordinate and oversee the delivery of singing tuition and music classes for all courses on the Southend Campus. As part of this, they will contribute to the teaching on the World Performance BA, by teaching elements of World & non-Western Music through both practical classes and lectures. Key duties will also be to contribute to excellence in education by designing and delivering, substantive and effective teaching and learning support at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including curriculum development and review, assessment and feedback, supervision.

The successful candidate will have substantial work as a professional in the theatre industry and experience of teaching in a conservatoire environment. They will have the ability to teach singing to actors as well as being able to teach elements of World Music theory and practice. They will be able to compose music for productions and have keyboard sight-reading skills to professional audition standard. They will be joining a dynamic team of tutors and practitioners and should demonstrate the ability to work alongside this creative team. The appointable candidate will also have a relevant doctoral level degree in a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience or practice).
