After selling out recent shows in Dublin (Arthur’s Blues n’ Jazz Club), the Derry native, known as The Godfather of Soul is celebrating an amazing 60 years on the road this year and as the title of his biography suggests, is ‘STILL GOING STRONG!

Rob Strong started out in the Showband era when he fronted the iconic PLATTERMEN SHOWBAND from Omagh frequently packing out the Longford Carnival in the late 1960s, The Longford Slashers Carnival in the mid 1970s and one of the biggest, The Horizon Ballroom in Mullingar. Rob also performed regularly in Longford town venues such as the Sunset Club at The Longford Arms Hotel.

In the 1970s nobody in Ireland personified the raw energy of rock, blues and soul music like Rob Strong, who was once offered the chance of joining the world famous Deep Purple band! Rob also performed for over 20 years (before Covid-19) at the Cork Jazz Festival where he built up a large local following.

Rob’s son, Andrew Strong, starred as ‘Deco Cuffe’ in the smash hit movie THE COMMITMENTS IN 1991 and toured with the world famous Rolling Stones, Elton John and Prince. Rob himself toured the UK and Europe with the Commitments band and was vocal coach for both soundtrack albums of the iconic movie. Rob’s band also feature a special Commitments section as part of their set with classics such as ‘Mustang Sally’ ,‘Treat her Right’ , ‘The Midnight Hour ’& ’Try a little Tenderness’. Rob Strong is revered in the Irish music business as evident in these quotes from his biography written by his manager, Paul Holland and from his website
