Preab Meadar Rhythm and Rhyme

Preab Meadar Rhythm and Rhyme

Saturday, 23 November 2019, 8.00pm

Rhythm and Rhyme combines the most inspired concept in Irish traditional music of the past century, Preab Meadar; with sean-nós dance, to create a fabulous feast of original dance steps and: “An extraordinary meeting of wordcraft and music rhythms” (Ellen Cranitch, LyricFM)

Veteran traditional music innovators, Lorcán Mac Mathúna and Daire Bracken combine with sean nós dancers Liam Scanlonn and Caoimhe Ní Mhaolagáin to create a mesmerising conversation of rhythm; between voice and fiddle, and traditional dance.

Based on Lorcán and Daire’s “stunning and incredible” collection of dance-songs, Preab Meadar; and combining with specially choreographed dance steps; this performance presents a truly unique combination of vocal, instrumental, and dance traditions. Preab Meadar is music of newly defined tune rhythms, in new ‘complex-time signatures’. It is based on the poetic meters of ‘strict-time-syllabic poetry’ from a medieval Gaelic tradition known as the ‘Dán Díreach’. From this ancient and mysterious source, a new tradition of electrifying rhythms has been created.

Intrigued? Well, wait till you see and hear it! Drawing on inspiration from old and contemporary traditions, and from village dance celebrations which were once common all over Europe; Rhythm and Rhyme will give you a visual feast of toe tingling dance songs that will have your feet twitching and lips humming.
