BBC Radio and Music Operations – Industrial Placement

Based in London - Broadcasting House, at Maida Vale and on Outside Broadcasts

Radio & Music Operations is part of Radio and Music Production which in turn is part of BBC Radio Group. There are Operations teams in London, Bristol, Birmingham and Salford. This is a department of over 100 staff. The majority of the audio for the national BBC Radio stations is handled by Radio & Music Operations at some stage in the journey to air.

Operations covers a diverse range of events including golf and tennis tournaments, concerts, comedy performance and opera as well as complex one-off events at home and abroad. Glastonbury, The Proms, Royal Weddings, Jubilees, State Events and the Olympics are all delivered by staff from Operations. We produce a large amount of studio based output for our Radio Networks. We also manage and run events in the BBC Radio Theatre and we have a suite of specialist music studios at Maida Vale.

Role Responsibility
This role provides a training placement of up to 12 months for a sound engineer with a strong interest in music, giving the opportunity to work at the highest level in recording and broadcasting programmes and concerts and events.

Are you the right candidate?

In order to apply for this placement you must have the following:
– Completed two years of a relevant undergraduate university course, fundamentals of sound engineering, music recording or a related subject
– Seeking a credit-bearing industrial placement before returning for your final year
– A strong interest in music balancing and BBC radio
– Evidence of drive and enthusiasm for BBC radio, music programmes and programme making
– Experience of team working and the ability to deal tactfully with a wide range of people
– Self-motivated with a flexible approach to the demands of the organisation
– Experience of working under pressure
