New Limerick-based Early Music organisation H.I.P.S.T.E.R. celebrates the European Day of Early Music in Ireland with a full day of concerts, exhibitions and educational events

H.I.P.S.T.E.R.—Limerick’s Historically Informed Performance Series, Teaching, Education and Research—brings music, instruments and dance from centuries ago to Limerick audiences with their official launch on the 21st of March. The organisation celebrates the European Day of Early Music with a compact one-day festival, which gathers together performers on harpsichord, viola da gamba, vielle, recorder, and voice in three concerts of chamber music from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. An exhibit of early instruments and a Renaissance dance workshop are two other crowd-pleasers on this unique day, which features music from over a thousand years and the fresh, imaginative, and historically inspired fashion in which Early Music artists perform. H.I.P.S.T.E.R.’s founders and co-directors, historical keyboardist Yonit Kosovske and singer Vlad Smishkewych, are joined by dance instructor Felicity Maxwellrecorder player Theresa Burton, Michelle O’Connor on medieval vielle and fiddle, and Sarah Groser, on viola da gamba and vielle.

All events are being held at the People’s Museum of Limerick in the heart of the Treaty City’s Georgian Quarter. The event is made possible by generous support from the Limerick City and County Council.
