The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra is hiring a Senior Orchestral Balancer (Senior Technical Producer).

The Senior Orchestral Balancer is absolutely pivotal to the orchestra’s operations. As the full time “Tonmeister” for the orchestra, this role creates the output sound (music, ambience and speech) of the orchestra for broadcast, delivering edited and live audio programmes to networks, and keeps track of all audio output of the orchestra. Reporting to the Head of Artistic Planning and Production, they are a key member of the management team.

Are you the right candidate?
– The ideal candidate will be an experienced, highly skilled and knowledgeable member of the audio engineering community
– Proven track record of balancing live music, with an emphasis but not restricted to, classical music and with some experience of working with a symphony orchestra
– You will possess a deep technical knowledge of recording, broadcasting and editing equipment; along with a well formed knowledge of the industry requirements of both TV and Radio broadcasting
– You will have a very keen interest in working with new technologies, driving innovation, striving to enhance the audio capabilities of the orchestra
