Jazz Connector 27th August: state of the Irish jazz community

Thursday, 27 August 2020, 1.30pm

Continuing our fortnightly Jazz Connector online meet-ups, IMC would again like to invite all the communities of people who make up the jazz world in Ireland - musicians, promoters, educators and venues - to come together for an informal Zoom meet-up on Thursday August 27th from 1:30 - 3:00PM to discuss:

The State of the Nation: The Irish jazz community and IMC’s musician survey results.

In early 2020, IMC conducted a survey amongst Irish jazz musicians, and gathered valuable information from the respondents on income streams, payment models, and different career structures amongst other things. At this meeting, we would like to share and discuss the results of this survey, looking at the current state of the Irish jazz community and what is needed to support Irish jazz and improvising musicians sustainably into the future.

We need your feedback and ideas on what is most needed by jazz and improvising musicians, to define our priorities and plan future actions.

Members of the jazz community have recently emphasised a need for a strong, unified voice for Irish jazz and improvised music, particularly in these turbulent times, and looking forward to the Arts Council’s proposed National Music Policy. With input from all stakeholders in the Irish jazz community we can lobby more effectively to government, funders, and venues to promote a community of artists who continually produces high-quality innovative work, in spite of an unsustainable infrastructure.

PLEASE REGISTER YOUR INTEREST at the link below to attend. You can also let us know if there are any particular topics that you would like us to cover in this or future discussions.
