Stockhausen's Sternklang (Star Sound)

Stockhausen's Sternklang (Star Sound)

Saturday, 29 August 2020, 7.30pm

An open performance of Stockhausen's Sternklang (Star Sound), under the stars as the composer intended.

Birmingham Contemporary Music Group joins forces with Das Neue Ensemble (Hannover) and Nordic Voices (Oslo) under the direction of Stephan Meier for a rare performance of the work in Hannover's wonderful Königlicher Berggarten Herrenhausen.

This is a unique and atmospheric post-lockdown experience: not only was Sternklang written as 'park music' to be performed outdoors by five small groups of musicians ‘socially distanced’ around 60 metres apart, but it gives the listener a chance to contemplate and observe the wonders of the universe with the cosmic soundscape envisioned by Stockhausen.
